Pension Rules

The following forms comprise the sub-system for creating the rules for a pension plan. This information is typically entered once for each plan. All the information listed is available on the forms via context sensitive help.

PENSION PLAN This form displays basic pension fund data.

Pension Plan

PLAN NAME The name and description of the pension plan.
PLAN DATE The date that this plan is effective.
PLAN END DATE The ending date of this plan.
LOSE VESTING The number of vesting units an employee must acquire to prevent units from being lost because of a permanent break in service.


BENEFIT CREDITS This form contains the rules for calculating the benefit credits.

Ben Cred

START DATE The date this rule becomes effective.
END DATE The last date that this rule is effective.
MINIMUM HOURS REQ The minimum number of hours required to earn credits.
CREDITS EARNED The number of credits earned if an employee works the minimum hours.
MINIMUM DOLLARS REQ The minimum dollars required to earn credits.
CREDITS EARNED The number of credits earned if an employee earns the minimum dollars.


BENEFIT MODIFIERS this form is used to create modifiers for the benefit credit rules.

Ben Mod

START DATE The date for the calculation criteria.
END DATE The ending date for the calculation criteria.
MINIMUM HOURS REQ The minimum hours required for this calculation. If an employee fails to meet this number of hours during the MOD START DATE and MOD END DATE then no pct of based earned calculations are performed. Base earnings are still applied to all hours worked during this period.
MIN DOLLARS REQ The minimum dollars required for this calculation. If an employee fails to meet this amount during the MOD START DATE and MOD END DATE then no pct of based earned calculations are performed. Base earnings are still applied to all amounts earned during this period.
MOD START DATE The start date for the range validations. Employees must work the number of units specified in the minimum unit field during and after this date.
MOD END DATE The ending date for the range validations. Employees must work the number of units specified in the minimum unit field during or before this date.
BASE EARNINGS The base rate earned.
BASE CODE Valid codes are: H – Hours, D – Dollars, V - Vesting units, C – Service Credits
QUALIFIER START DATE The minimum units that must be earned before this modifier has effect on calculations.
QUALIFIER END DATE The last date that qualifier data will be used.
MIN QUALIFIER UNITS The minimum units that must be earned before this modifier has effect on calculations.
CRITERIA CODE Valid codes are: E - For units earned in EACH year, A - For units earned in ANY of the years, C - For units earned each year during CONCURRENT years, M - For units earned each year within specified number of NON-CONCURRENT years. Combinations of codes are valid,


BREAK INFORMATION This form is used to enter the break information for each plan.

Ben Breaks

START DATE The year this break criterion begins.
END DATE The year this break criterion ends.
MIN HOURS TO PREVENT YEAR BREAK The minimum dollars required to prevent a break in service.
MIN DOLLARS TO PREVENT YEAR BREAK The minimum dollars required to prevent a break in service.
NUMBER OF CONSECUTIVE YEAR BREAK UNITS FOR PERM BREAK The number of consecutive breaks required to establish a permanent break in service.
USE PARITY Enter a 'Y' if this plan uses parity otherwise enter an 'N'.
MIN UNITS CURRENT YEAR TO QUALIFY FOR PARITY Number of units required to establish parity rules.


VESTING CREDITS this form is used to establish the vesting credit rules.

Vest Credit

START DATE The date this vesting credit rule becomes effective.
END DATE The date this vesting credit rule expires.
MINIMUM HOURS REQ The minimum hours required to earn vesting credits.
CREDITS EARNED The number of credits earned when the minimum vesting hours are met.
MINIMUM DOLLARS REQ The minimum dollars required to earn vesting credits.
CREDITS EARNED The number of credits earned when the minimum dollars are met.


VESTING PERCENT This form is used to define the vesting percent rules.

Vest Pct

START DATE The date for this rule.
END DATE The ending date for this rule.
USE VESTING CREDITS Enter a 'Y' if vesting credits are used for this rule. Enter an 'N' if not used. Years and credits may not both be 'Y'.
USE VESTING YEARS Enter a 'Y' if vesting years are used for this rule. Enter an 'N' if not used. Years and credits may not both be 'Y'.
TOTAL UNITS FOR 100% VESTING The minimum number of units required for 100% vesting.
UNITS FOR YEAR OF VESTING Enter the minimum number of units required each year to earn vesting.
PERCENT OF VESTING FOR ONE UNIT The vesting percent earned each year if the minimum credits are earned.
